RE: #9 The Pallet

Everyone’s focused on creating the masterpiece... but they neglect what it takes to make it.

It sounds so romantic to say, “I want my life to resemble a masterpiece.”

Sounds great, but I don’t want that.

I want my life to be like a pallet. It’s more realistic and equally as fulfilling. I’ll tell you why in a moment.

We love to think of outcomes, results, the goal, the finished product. Not not the doing or what it took to get there.

Very few things become a masterpiece.

We usually don’t recognize them as Masterpieces until after the artist is long gone. And they don’t simply appear in perfect form. The other thing about Masterpieces is that they are usually deemed a Masterpiece by someone else. The artist really have any control over it.

If you think of famous artists like Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh we instantly can think of and identify their works of art.

But there is a lot behind the scenes that never makes the final canvas.

An integral but overlooked tool of a painter is the palette.

The brush and canvas seem to get all of the recognition. But it’s the pallet where everything starts.

If it were’t for the palette, the masterpiece wouldn’t exist.

Pallets can be brilliant, colorful, messy, and full of character

… like life.

And if you look closely palettes are unique to each artist. They have a personality.

… like life.

So why do I want my life to resemble a palette?

Because instead of paint, I can fill my palette with beauty, love, learning, happiness, passion, pain all to create the life I want.

Because it is in my control to make it colorful, vibrant, messy, but necessary to create the masterpiece that my life will ultimately be when we look back upon it.

I don’t know if it will be perfect or considered a masterpiece by others or look how other believe it should look.. BUT IT’S MINE.

Are you chasing a masterpiece? Are you chasing perfection, a certain outcome or result, or trying to create something according to someone else’s vision?

I suggest look at your life as a palette…. Valuing the beautiful magnificent mess by which your life’s masterpiece is created and YOU see it in your mind.

What does your palette look like? How do you want to fill it?
