Balancing living with intention & allowing for things to happen.

Funny how I look at the chapters of life so far. The plot, the characters, the protagonist, the narrative, the hero’s journey of sorts… it’s been an adventure, a comedy, a drama, a love story… all in one.

I look at where I am, the locations, the situations, and the characters who’ve been a part in the past six months…. And juxtapose that with where I was this time last year picking up pieces.

How different that chapter was versus two years ago… four years … Hell, I think back ten years ago in Dallas with my kids who are now grown up… I even look at the chapters 30 years ago as a twentysomething in NYC where I wrote my first books (Real ones, not metaphorical )

Like yours, my story has a variety of chapters and characters. Some great, others…not so much… all different, necessary and memorable.

The hardest part of it is to admit there are times when I’ve stepped back and gave the pen (or keyboard ) to others and mistakenly gave them or a situation control the story.. or worse…I left MY story to play a bit part in someone else’s.

I didn’t LIVE… I was on autopilot or letting someone else, or a situation write the story… and sometimes I tried to control it so much or live it according to a formula or the “shoulds”… it didn’t flow or feel alive.

It’s like if you have a favorite show and there is one season that sucks and doesn’t feel right … because they brought in a different writer.

What I’ve learned through it all is that it is a delicate dance where you have to balance writing (living) YOUR own story with purpose and intention…. While simultaneously remaining flexible and open enough to let the story write itself along the way.

That balance is where the unexpected and beautiful parts are… it’s also the hardest part to practice as well.

All I know now is…I like this chapter and I hope it continues to be a VERY long and interesting story! I’m pretty damned sure it will be! I know the author!
