What I told my kids about college friendships

When each of my kids went to college I told them, “you will meet a lot of people and have several “sets” of friends as you evolve… but if you can leave college with a handful of people you’re close to who will be in your life throughout… marriages, kids, divorces, life’s highs and lows and you look up 20-30 years later and though you may be in different parts of the country or live different lives …. they are there for you…. That’s a win and what you look for in your college friends…. Really it’s what you look for from all friends… but these are the ones who knew you when you all were growing up and trying to figure out the world and yourselves … that’s the good stuff.

My two oldest have graduated and have forged those types of friendships… this guy here is one of mine.

This pic is shortly before I left Dallas three years ago. To Michael Lambring, one of the good people in my orbit.
