What you can learn from people watching… Everyone has a choice
My sainted Grandma Natalie back in West Texas would like to go to the Mall and People watch. Just before she went to Lucy’s cafeteria at 4:00 in the afternoon...(if you’re Texan or have a Nana... you get it.)
Anyway, maybe I’m just becoming an old man but I’ve become fascinated with this idea of people watching (no not in a stalker creepy way)
Not to look at Oh, they/re so odd, or look at that...
I’ve come to do it in a different way. I believe (actually I KNOW) that everyone has a story. A past, a dream.
If I see couples, I wonder what the attraction is? How they got together?
What is that person’s dream.... at one point that person loved, wanted to be something achieve something grandiosity... Maybe they still do...
In my hellish sabbatical a while back when I tended bar I discovered that many of the people you are ... some, hey that’s as good as it gets..No judgment. Just not my bag... BUT it was the ones that when you scratch Be earth the surface and discover that they ...
People were floored when they discovered bits about me, my past and my present.
Look behind.. Look Up...Look them in the eyes.
I took my son to one of the homeless shelters in Dallas. THE ROUGH one. We saw lines of people in the afternoon. We say people strung out on drugs, WE says tents under the overload, we saw hookers leaving an alley with a man.... Not your “oh, let;’s drop off some old clothes at good will.... the type of “charity” that makes you feel good about yourself with out really getting dirty and you get a tax deduction…THE REAL REAL.
Some are mentally Ill. Some are on drugs and made bad choices... BUT OTHERS, they were different. See I’ve discovered that EVERYONE from the CEO making $500K + a year to the person serving your coffee making $15 an hour to the person.. is all one decision away from a different life.
What was that story...
A death,
A bankruptcy
A lie or deception
A lawsuit
A failed business attempt
A divorce.
A rejection
A breakup
.... a dream burst or a dream realized.
The CHOICE... to accept status quo and to move ahead and try again or come back... or to remain down. ONE CHOICE... and ONE CHOICE.
