RE: Lesson #6 True to Yourself
You're a liar. Yes, YOU.
I know that sounds harsh. I’m not trying to be mean.
But you've been lying to yourself... probably for a long time now.
One of the most common things I hear from the "grown ass adults" (people in midlife) that I coach all over the world is that they "gave up a piece of themselves" over the years.
They gave up their voice, confidence, dreams, or path to a relationship, a career, others expectations, or cruel words...(from others and those inside our own heads)
Why do I say you’re a liar?
It’s not personal… we all are really. We lie to ourselves about why we take a back seat, play small, or dim our voice.
We lie to ourselves by saying or tell ourselves lies like, "I'm doing it for them." or that it doesn't hurt, isn't important, that's how it's supposed to be, or "That's just how I am." , "I'm a victim', or "Maybe they're right and I suck, am stupid, lazy, ugly, etc.”
Look in the mirror. Look at your past, your choices, your heart, your soul.
You know the lies you've told yourself.
You know if, when, and how you've lied to yourself to make someone else happy or keep the peace, or keep them from leaving.
That may be hard to acknowledge.
It's the hard stuff, the cold hard facts, the punch in the nose, the uncomfortable TRUTH, that we know in our heart, but we don't like to admit.
This is not intended to beat yourself up at all. No.
Rather it's a wake up call. A cry for freedom.
A call for YOU TO BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.
Life is short... and now is the time.
One of my top three favorite songs ever is by Ziggy Marley. The song is, "True to myself”
In fact I love it and believe it so much, I will have the chorus tattooed on my arm at some point in the near future.
I've played this song on repeat more times than I can remember, and it still moves me and makes me realize where I've not been truthful to myself... and STRENGTHENS me to be the man I TRULY AM, and am meant to be.
Here are the lyrics.
Life has come a long way since yesterday, I say
And its not the same old thing over again, I say
Just do what you feel and don't you fool yourself, I say
'Cause I can't make you happy unless, I am I say
Got to be true to myself
Day in day out I've asked many questions, I say
Only to find the truth it never changes, I say
If you don't deal with it it keeps killing you a little by little, I say
Call me selfish if you will my life I alone can live, I say I say I
Got to be true to myself
I don't care if it hurts
I'm tired of lies and all these games
I've reached a point in life no longer can I be this way
Don't come crying to me I too have shed my share of tears
I'm moving on yes I'm grooving on well I'm finally free I’ve
Got to be true to myself
I hope this message (and this song) resonate with you as it has me.
What is YOUR truth?
REgardless of how your TRUTH manifests itself in your life, NOW is your time.
Give yourself the freedom, power, and gift to BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.
