

I hate this shirt.
Actually I hate this saying, “Hero to Rent.”
All of us want to be the “hero or heroine” to someone for something. BUT too often we undervalue ourselves… RENT ourselves out on the cheap in the name of being a “hero.”
Vanilla is great for ice cream… but not so great as a way of life or a personality trait.
How long do YOU want to live? Really. When do you think you’ll check out?
What if you had more time than you thought? What would you do with it?
Everyone’s focused on creating the masterpiece... but they neglect what it takes to make it.
It sounds so romantic to say, “I want my life to resemble a masterpiece.”
Sounds great, but I don’t want that.
I want my life to be like a pallet. It’s more realistic and equally as fulfilling. I’ll tell you why in a moment.
Often we pretend to be someone else for so long we think it becomes easy. In fact, neuroscientists show that it is harder on your brain to be someone else that ourselves.
The ability to adapt is inherently a positive one. It works for the chameleon... at least it keeps him from being someone's lunch. And it can work for us too sometimes.
But the problem occurs when WE become chameleons in our own right.
You know if, when, and how you've lied to yourself to make someone else happy or keep the peace, or keep them from leaving.
At midlife we often first think of discovering... but I believe there is POWER in UNCOVERING what was there originally.

At midlife we realize that we have fewer summer ahead of us than behind us. Making real change begins with the mindset that we have the CHOICE to make the best of the rest of our time and that CHOOSING ourselves is a good thing.
